Given the current situation, the automotive industry is dealing with about as many problems as it can handle. However, not all issues are bad. Kia is currently grappling with the fact that the Kia Telluride is such a popular SUV that it can’t keep up with consumer demand.
That’s right, people are so eager to get behind one of the best SUVs on the road that Kia has had to make changes to its production pipeline to build more Tellurides. Initially, the manufacturing plant planed on a yearly output of 60,000 units. Within a few months, Kia’s leadership had to bump it up to 100,000, and it’s still not quite enough.
According to The Car Connection’s Joel Feder, the shortage of Tellurides was present even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, he stated that models never stayed on a dealership lot for more than 11 days, as opposed to the overall industry’s 60-day average. Apparently, the current turnover rate is a whopping zero days.
Its popularity makes sense, though, given its striking appearance, feature-rich interior, advanced safety systems, and impressive capability. The Car Connection even named it the Best Car to Buy in 2020.
