With the weather slightly changing in our area, now is the perfect time to reassess the needs of your vehicle. Here are some fall car care tips to help you avoid unwanted — and costly — repairs.
Check up on the battery
The extreme heat of summer can do a number on the health of your car’s battery. Before we head into cooler temperatures, you’ll want to check the battery to see if it needs to be replaced or charged. Take a look at the terminals for signs of corrosion, as those will need to be cleaned.
Test the headlights and tail lights
Soon enough, the sun will start setting earlier in the day. Having lights that work properly on your vehicle is essential to your safety and that of others. An easy way to check your car’s headlights and tail lights is to start the vehicle and turn them on. Get out and check the headlights and fog lights up front. Someone else will have to stand behind the vehicle when you press on the brake to see if those lights are working, too.
Properly inflate the tires
The tires of your vehicle are what provide traction on the road. When leaves fall and it rains more, the roads become slippery. If the tires are under- or overinflated, you could face a dangerous situation behind the wheel. Get the tires filled to the correct PSI, which can usually be found in the driver’s side door jamb or owner’s manual.
These are just a few of the top maintenance tips that you should consider as we head into fall. If you have any questions about your vehicle or what it needs, feel free to contact us or visit our team at Gossett Kia in Memphis, Tennessee.
